5 Reasons to Take a Winter Weekend Trip to Lake Geneva

When most people think about Lake Geneva, they immediately think of the beach, summer resorts, boating on the lake, summer-time shopping, and maybe the fall foliage. Not many think fondly about trips to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in the dead of winter. In fact, can anything good come from Wisconsin’s most dreaded months of the year—December, January, and February? Absolutely.

We’ve been in business in Lake Geneva long enough to know that some of the best parts of Lake Geneva can only be experienced in the winter. The ice-covered lake is stunningly beautiful, there’s ice skating, cross country skiing, winter mountain biking, and of course, an amazing winter zipline tour and high ropes course.

Here are 5 reasons we think you should take a weekend trip to Lake Geneva this winter.

1) More Affordable Rates

Many of the local hotels, resorts, and activities offer winter rates that make a family weekend or couple getaway much more affordable.

For example, for a family of 5, a basic Airbnb in July will run you at least $300/night. But in the winter months, there are a number of options at or below $100/night.

Here at Lake Geneva Canopy Tours, we offer discounted winter rates on all our activities.

2) No Crowds—a Quiet, Relaxed Main Street

Lake Geneva is more relaxed and slower-paced during the winter months. If you prefer peace and quiet while walking down Main Street and want to walk the Lakeshore Path without dodging cyclists every few minutes, then you might love Lake Geneva in the winter.

According to VISIT Lake Geneva, the peak summer months draw at least three times as many visitors compared to the winter months.

3) Smaller Groups on Tours

During the summertime, we’ll regularly sell out tour times for our zipline canopy tour and high ropes course, but during the winter the tour groups tend to stay a little smaller.

So, if you’d prefer a more personal ziplining or high ropes experience—or other tours in Lake Geneva—you might love winter tours.

4) Winter-Only Activities

There are quite a few activities that you can only experience during the winter in Lake Geneva. Here’s a short list of some of our favorites:

  • Skiing and Snowboarding at the Grand Geneva Resort: This might not be a 10,000 ft. Colorado ski mountain, but it is a fun little hill for families and experienced skiers and snowboarders to try something new.
  • Winterfest: If you happen to be in town for Winterfest, the ice castle competition and abominable snow race are both worth watching.
  • Winter Ziplining & High Ropes: Of course, this is one of our favorites. There’s nothing like zipping and climbing through the snowy tree-tops of our 100-acre forest.

5) The Beauty of Snowy Lake Geneva

We all know that Lake Geneva is beautiful in the summer and fall months, but what about during the winter?

From the lake itself to the quiet downtown streets, to the delightful ice sculptures during Winterfest, to the beauty of freshly fallen snow in our own 100-acre forest, in some ways, Lake Geneva is more beautiful in the winter than in the summer.
